Daily Web Browsing

July 10th, 2007

What an exciting day. I’ve had so many things to think about I hardly know what to do with myself. So I’ve decided instead of showing you the latest and greatest I’d pull a few older things that I thought were interesting.

Pownce

Pownce is a new social networking website that I’m trying out. The website is focused almost exclusively on posting interesting links, files, and shouting out to all your friends. When you post a message all of your friends see it so it’s a great way to show people things. It’s currently invite only. You can request an invite and wait a few weeks, or I can give you one of the 4 I have left. I’m trying to create a social empire here, so your help is greatly appreciated.

SaveNetRadio

This is really starting to cut it close. One more week and internet radio is dead forever!

VNV Nation

A daily web browsing post wouldn’t be complete without music right?

How to Make Hot Ice

A liquid that turns solid instantly with a simple touch!

My goodness what are you doing reading my weblog on a weekend? You should be on a date or something. At least go play Unreal Tournament or watch the new Transformers movie goodness! I’m thinking about increasing the frequency of posts…

Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula

Greatest rock song released this year. Really trippy video.

Gears of War PC?

Personally I don’t believe this at all. The movement in the video is obviously done with a controller. I guess we’ll have to wait till Wednesday to find out the truth.

Mortal Kombat In Central Park

A cappella group ambushes a boxer training in central park with the Mortal Kombat theme song!

PHP class based form checking

July 6th, 2007

Once upon a time I decided to make a php script. The script was a simple test. Users could could submit data, that was later spewed out along with everyone else’s submissions. I was quite beside myself. I had hundreds of entries, and I thought things were going quite well! Oh how naive! The next day a strange yellow box that said “don’t mouse over me” appeared on the list. Of course I couldn’t help myself, and moved my cursor straight towards the box. The next thing I know I’m being redirected to the homepage for a professional Christian wrestling organization. It was at this point that I realized you shouldn’t trust everything users put into an input box. I quickly devoted myself to fixing the issue trying to find the best way to validate forms. Several months later after many various attempts I was able to devise a class based system that made form checking a breeze. Now I’m about to divulge everything I have learned to you in a matter of minutes! I’ll start off with the basic form checking strategy, describe how classes can simplify this process, and end with some general guidelines and tips.

Simple Elevator Hacking

This video shows you how to put 90% of all elevators on express mode. When the elevator is in express mode it will go straight to the floor you specify without stopping.

How To Initiate Conversation

Ok so maybe I’m socially inept. It’s still a good article!

Impossible Knot Video

Pretty self explanatory. The way the knot lies on it’s self makes it so that you can’t get a hold on the rope to pull it apart.

Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes

Sometimes we subject ourselves to so much crappy music that we forget what real music sounds like. That’s especially true of trance music. Why don’t we listen to something timeless instead?

Daily web browsing

July 5th, 2007

I thought you might be interested in seeing what sort of stuff I’ve dug up every day web browsing. Here’s a list of the things I found the most interesting today. Also please feel free as always to contact me. You took the time to view my website, the least I can do in return is look at yours. I might even put it in my daily web browsing post.

Animaniacs DVD Boxed Set Petition

I really have to agree with this guy. The Animaniacs are cool and they should have their own boxed set collection.

Switchfoot - Dare you to move

Sure it’s nothing new, but this song is just so darn cool. I went looking for the guitar tabs for it and found this one to be acceptable (altho far from perfect)

Secrets of the Tetris Grand Masters

Ever wanted to get good at tetris? Maybe you should give this a look. It explains how people are able to play on such a fast setting.

Google Losses “Gmail” Trademark Case

Google lost a court case over the trademark for gmail. The owner of the trademark refuses to sell. Let’s all hope that he comes to his senses and sells otherwise we’ll all have to change our e-mail addresses. Maybe Google will decide to give the service a real name this time.

Don’t forget to check the website out tomorrow for more links. I also have a tutorial coming about form validation in php later this week, and a few funny things I found about the 2008 presidential candidates for early next week.

Dragons and meep

July 2nd, 2007

You may have noticed that some of your dragon friends may “meep!” at you. The first time this happens you may feel confused. What is meep supposed to mean anyways? Despite it’s increasing popularity few people know the true meaning of the word meep, and others are simply misinformed. This is unfortunate, and is the source of many a dragon’s unhappiness. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place. Nobody knows more about meep nor has used it more often than I have. In fact I dare say that I am primarily responsible for making the word popular. Many of my friends saw me meeping, and thought it was cool. As the trend spread to the masses it’s origin was quickly lost. This is why I’ve decided that it is time to set the record straight.

Can you keep up?

July 1st, 2007

Believe it or not I’ve started a web log. Yes, that’s right. I finally decided to stop fooling around and try my hand at actually maintaining a page by consistently posting content. Don’t worry I’m sure I’ll keep you all amused with my dissertations and rhetoric, and don’t worry I’ll update regularly. There’s always something interesting on the internet to talk about. Besides you all know me, I always have something to say.

For those of you that are more technically inclined expect to see a wide array of tutorials and projects as well. My ultimate goal is to teach you everything I know. I might not know much, but you’ll be amazed at how much you can do with just a little bit of web knowledge. During my life I’ve generated a large array of crap, and it’s time to unload it all somewhere. I have two semesters worth of Java programming I plan on posting about. There’s plenty to say about PHP, and web development.

Most people would probably write something about how they hope you enjoy the blog, and how you should read it regularly and so forth. I’m not going to bother with all that. We all know that I’m going to spam you so hard about it you won’t have a choice but to read. I don’t want you to be miserable, so I suggest you learn to like it.
