UT3 Comic-Con Footage Analysis

July 28th, 2007

If you’ve been waiting for some good UT3 footage to come out the wait is over. Epic Games has been showing the game off at Comic-Con. Players can jump on the computers and play multiplayer DeathMatch. Over at BeyondUnreal we were lucky enough to have Princess_Die send us over 4 very good quality shakeycam videos. We’re very lucky that Princess_Die sent us the footage and all the credit goes to him. I’m just lucky enough to be a staff member at BeyondUnreal so that I can see them early. Highres links are available here and here. Here’s my more detailed synopsis and opinions based on what I’ve seen in the videos.

Daily..er Weekly Web Browsing

July 27th, 2007

Well I sorta had a long weekend, and I’ve been doing all sorts of random stuff, so sorry for the delay in posting. I’m still sorta playing around, and I haven’t come down with the exact formula I want to use in terms of content on this blog.

Magnetic Liquid

There’s lots of cool videos showing strange substances out there, but this one takes the cake. Really strange looking results here.

Rats can laugh?

Apparently not only can you tickle rats, but they laugh when you do so as well. The rats enjoy it quite a bit it seems.

Exploding Propane Tank

They thought the tank would just simply explode, but instead it shot gas everywhere setting the lake on fire and shooting the tank off like a rocket across the lake.

ComicCon UT3 footage

Some of the best UT3 footage to date. Really changes a lot of my perceptions about how the game will play.

Oscar The Cat Predicts Death

This is one of the most interesting news stories I’ve found on the internet for quite a while. This cat that lives in an old folks home can tell when patients are about to die, and decides to lay down next to them in their final hours.

Why Silicon Knights Needs A Wakeup Call

July 20th, 2007

The big story of the day is that Epic is being sued by Silicon Knights. It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen news this big. There were at least 8 e-mails about it sent to the beyondunreal news mailer, all the major gaming websites have picked it up, and it’s already hit digg. If you don’t know what I’m talking about head over to Gamasutra who I believe has the best synopsis of what’s going on. I think in the end this whole thing is just going to blow up in Silicon Knight’s faces. These guys seem to be absolutely cluelesss. So here’s a wakup call for you Silicon Knights. Fact of the matter here is that YOUR GAME SUCKS, and you have nobody to blame but yourselves!

You There YouTube?

July 17th, 2007

YouTube is one of the great innovations of the Web 2.0 era. Two years ago if you told me that there’d be online communities around uploading and viewing videos I’d think you were crazy. It still boggles my mind that we have the bandwidth and power to push websites like this. I tend to look through the top videos every day. Yes most of it is crap, but every once and a while you find something good, and that makes it all worth it. Unfortunately there’s some serious flaws with YouTube’s system, and it kinda makes you wonder. Is anybody there?

GG Digg

July 12th, 2007

Here’s how it went down:

Yesterday I posted the 2008 Election Merchandise article here.  There was a lot of thought and work behind that post as I wanted it to be my first really good blog post.  I was quite proud of myself and said “hey I bet I could put this on Digg with something about Ron Paul in the title and it might do ok”.  So I went over to Digg and submitted the story as “Buy a Ron Paul Maternity T-Shirt!”  Afterwards I posted the link to the story in IRC and on my Pownce page.  The story got 6 diggs, and a few comments before the end of the night.  I thought hey cool this is turning out perfect.

I wake up the next day, my story is gone, and I see this:

My Digg Account is Disabled :(

I have no clue what happened.  I have a few theories. Maybe they don’t like you linking to your digg stories like I did on pownce.  They may have thought the title of the story was misleading.  Maybe people just marked it as spam and the system automatically cut me out.  Either way I really don’t think I did anything wrong, so I’m obviously very confused.

I guess it doesn’t really matter, I can still read stories, and that’s what I really like using the site for.  Besides if I ever do write something worth digging you guys will submit the story for me right?

Feel free to post conspiracy theories in the comments.

2008 Election Gear

July 11th, 2007

As you may already know, Mitt Romney should be president. I’m not sure why, but all the sudden I have this huge interest in the 2008 elections. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been brainwashed by those guys on talk radio that are running the country. Maybe I just want a Mormon to be president. It could just be that Mitt Romney is fricking cool! Either way, I really want this guy to be president.

I am so interested in his campaign that I’ve actually considered buying Mitt Romney merchandise. Yes, that’s right Mitt Romney has a store on his website where you can buy various items with his name on it. In fact many of the candidates have stores. I found this all quite humorous. Here’s a few examples of the things that you can go and buy:

Evangelian

The video doesn’t have any kind of description, but it appears to be a teaser for the new retelling of Evangelian to be released this fall. It looks absolutely amazing.  I’ll find some more info about it for you tomorrow.

DJ Tiesto

Tiesto is by far my favorite trance DJ. Check out his website frequently as he updates the music on the page to show of the latest set he put on at his concerts.

E3 Insider

It’s e3 week! Aren’t you excited? This is their official website. A great place to go to see what’s happening right now. Of course don’t forget to check out all your favorite gaming news websites (like BeyondUnreal) as well.

Guitar Hero 3

In case you live under a rock, they’re releasing a new Guitar Hero 3. Here’s a video.

July 10th, 2007

What an exciting day. I’ve had so many things to think about I hardly know what to do with myself. So I’ve decided instead of showing you the latest and greatest I’d pull a few older things that I thought were interesting.

Pownce

Pownce is a new social networking website that I’m trying out. The website is focused almost exclusively on posting interesting links, files, and shouting out to all your friends. When you post a message all of your friends see it so it’s a great way to show people things. It’s currently invite only. You can request an invite and wait a few weeks, or I can give you one of the 4 I have left. I’m trying to create a social empire here, so your help is greatly appreciated.

SaveNetRadio

This is really starting to cut it close. One more week and internet radio is dead forever!

VNV Nation

A daily web browsing post wouldn’t be complete without music right?

How to Make Hot Ice

A liquid that turns solid instantly with a simple touch!

My goodness what are you doing reading my weblog on a weekend? You should be on a date or something. At least go play Unreal Tournament or watch the new Transformers movie goodness! I’m thinking about increasing the frequency of posts…

Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula

Greatest rock song released this year. Really trippy video.

Gears of War PC?

Personally I don’t believe this at all. The movement in the video is obviously done with a controller. I guess we’ll have to wait till Wednesday to find out the truth.

Mortal Kombat In Central Park

A cappella group ambushes a boxer training in central park with the Mortal Kombat theme song!
