Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about McCain’s new VP pick Sarah Palin. the choice came as an absolute surprise to everyone. Nobody saw it coming, and the ensuing chaos has been nothing short of amusing. The media and blogosphere immediately scrambled to find every piece of information they could possibly gather on this previous unknown. Liberal blogs, and news outlets worked particularly hard this weekend. Days that are generally devoid of political information were bombarded with story after story about Palin. The Huffington Post alone posted over a dozen attack ads against Palin on Saturday alone.
Palin’s 5th Child Not Hers?
but the worst was yet to come. Bloggers at the DailyKos claimed that they had proof that Palin’s 5th child is not her’s. Picture after picture was posted next to speculation that Palin was never really pregnant, and that the child belonged to her daughter. Social news sites such as Digg were bombarded by stories as the internet scoured Google to find every picture they could. The speculation completely consumed the internet.
Palin Surprises Once Again
Little did the internet know how far off base they really were. The rumor was quickly debunked by conservatives, and Palin’s doctor, but these stories went mostly under the radar. This prompted the startling revelation that Palin’s daughter is currently 5 months pregnant! Once again Palin has completely surprised us all, and has turned the political game in a completely different direction.
Do Liberal Blogs Do More Harm Than Good?
One must wonder if these baseless accusations do more harm than good. The rumors attempted to place Palin’s family values in question. Instead this undue attention gave Palin the perfect opportunity. Her family credentials have only been strengthened by this ordeal. Meanwhile one must question the reputation of any outlet that took this story seriously. Expect the conservative backlash to grill these websites up and down all day. Just don’t expect the liberal blogs to lick their wounds for long.
